American Tourist Killed by Elephant During Safari in Zambia

An 80-year-old American woman was killed in Zambia after an elephant attacked a vehicle carrying tourists in Kafue National Park.

Another woman was injured and taken to a medical center in South Africa following the incident, which occurred on Saturday (30), the conservation and hospitality company Wilderness, which was running the trip, said in a statement released on Tuesday (2).

Four other people also sustained minor injuries.

The CEO of Wilderness, Keith Vincent, stated that the vehicle, which was carrying six tourists and a guide, was “unexpectedly attacked” by an elephant during the wildlife viewing excursion known as a safari.

“Our guides are all extremely well-trained and experienced, but unfortunately, in this case, the terrain and vegetation were such that the guide’s route was blocked, and he could not move the vehicle away from danger quickly enough,” Vincent said.

“This is a tragic event, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family of the guest who passed away,” he said.

“We are also, of course, supporting the guests and those involved in this distressing incident,” he added.

Zambia is popular among tourists seeking safaris due to a number of national parks and the quality of its guides.

Kafue is the largest national park in the country and is home to over 200 species of animals.

It is known for sightings of lions and leopards, as well as an incredible diversity of antelope species, many of which are rarely seen elsewhere.

So, would you go on a safari?
