If English is your second language, you NEED to read the “Writing Rules”! – The Brasilians

If English is your second language, you NEED to read the “Writing Rules”!

Author Joan Ramirez talks about her new book, The Writing Rules, a must-read for professionals in Engineering, Technical fields, and English as a Second Language who wish to improve their written and verbal communication skills:
The Brasilians: Tell us a bit about your journey.
Joan Ramirez: I live in the New York metropolitan area. I am a published photojournalist, I write articles on online business communications, and I have taught English as a Second Language to students around the world. I have published three non-fiction books and am currently writing a historical thriller set during World War II. I hold three master’s degrees in Journalism, ESL, and Special Education (Autism). I have always helped independent entrepreneurs in their business ventures; I founded JL Regen Enterprises LLC in September 2020. I have conducted literacy and ESL workshops in Vietnam, Seoul, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and South Africa.
TB: How did you come up with the idea to write the book The Write Rules?
JR: I was motivated by a course I taught for internal staff when I was Communications Manager at a multibillion-dollar engineering company. I have always wanted to write a manual for entrepreneurs. Voilà: The Write Rules. Many of my former students also inspired me.
TB: Who will benefit from reading your book?
JR: My book will benefit individuals looking to advance in their current companies and those who want to learn the nuances of entrepreneurship, from how to craft a business plan to creating media materials and making presentations.
TB: How does your book help professionals be more successful in their fields?
JR: Professionals will apply the skill set I describe in my manual to their chosen fields. It is applicable to all industries, and there is a section on English as a Second Language for individuals born abroad. The ability to express oneself in clear and concise English is key to advancement and growth.
TB: Your book offers practical tips in various different areas, including writing and speeches or presentations. What is the most important advice for people who want to make successful presentations?
JR: Focus on your audience’s needs and speak directly to those needs. Stay on topic.
TB: What advice would you give to a Brazilian entrepreneur working in the USA?
JR: I have traveled to Brazil. It is a fascinating and magnificent country. However, when a Brazilian entrepreneur arrives in the USA, they need to ensure they can communicate—verbally and in writing—in clear and concise English. Knowing your business is not enough, as you need to convey your message in the United States for your services/products to be understood. I would love to help you in this vital area.
TB: Where can we buy the book?
JR: At any major bookstore or online: books2read.com/thewriterules
