Visit Canela, the Incredible City of Serra Gaúcha

Canela is one of the most incredible cities in Serra Gaúcha and certainly worth a visit. Canela and the neighboring city, Gramado, 7 km away, are part of the Rota Romântica, an itinerary characterized by the cold climate and tourist attractions that range from shopping to ecotourism and adventures, in addition to offering amazing cuisine.

Among the ecotourism options, visit the Parque Estadual do Caracol, one of the most well-known postcards of Rio Grande do Sul. It features a beautiful waterfall 131 m high, as well as viewpoints, restaurants, shops, and leisure areas. In the park, you can take the train from the Estação Sonho Vivo, board the cable car, which takes you to a viewpoint in front of the waterfall and the valley, as well as participate in more adventurous activities like trekking, mountain biking, canyoning, and zip-lining.

The Parque da Ferradura is located 6 km from Caracol, ideal for those seeking contact with nature, offering various trail options. Additionally, the parks Laje de Pedra, Sequoias, Sesi, Corredeiras, and the National Forest of the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) are some of the many options for nature contact in the beautiful natural setting of Canela.

In the city, be sure to visit tourist attractions such as the themed park Mundo a Vapor, which impressively features a train of cars positioned almost vertically on the facade. You should also visit the Casa do Artesão, where you can buy beautiful handcrafted pieces, and the Catedral de Pedra, an impressive church in Gothic style. Next to it is the famous Alpen Park, an amusement park where you can ride a zip line and slide, as well as rappel, climb trees, and participate in other activities.

Eating is also an attraction in Canela, starting with the colonial coffee. There are more than 80 delights served at the table, such as jams, wines, cakes, and homemade pasta, in addition to traditional polentas and sausages. It is almost impossible to eat everything that is served! Fondos, galetos (small pieces of grilled chicken), barbecue, and soups are also part of the city’s gastronomic tour.
