The U.S. Department of State has issued a global security alert advising American citizens abroad to exercise increased caution.
The alert is motivated by the conflict between Israel and Iran, which has resulted in travel disruptions and the temporary closure of airspace throughout the Middle East. In addition to being posted on the Department of State’s website, the alert can also be found on the websites of U.S. embassies around the world.
“There is potential for demonstrations against U.S. citizens and interests abroad. The Department of State recommends that U.S. citizens worldwide exercise increased caution,” states the global security alert.
The official U.S. government statement does not refer to the U.S. airstrikes on three nuclear facilities in the Persian country: Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan, last Saturday (21). These airstrikes have further increased tensions in the region and could lead to retaliatory actions.
