Trump Congratulates Milei on “Crushing Victory” in Argentine Legislative Elections

US President Donald Trump congratulated Argentine President Javier Milei on the resounding victory of his party, La Libertad Avanza, in the legislative elections held this Sunday (26). The movement led by Milei significantly expanded its base of support in Congress, consolidating the political power of the Argentine government.

“Congratulations to President Javier Milei on his crushing victory in Argentina. He is doing a wonderful job! Our confidence in him was justified by the Argentine people,” wrote the US president.

With 99% of the ballot boxes counted, the La Libertad Avanza party won 64 of the 127 seats contested in the Chamber of Deputies and 13 of the 24 seats in the Senate. The result strengthens the government base and should bring relations between Buenos Aires and Washington even closer.

The main opposition bloc, Força Pátria, obtained 31 seats in the Chamber and 6 in the Senate. Alongside Peronist allies, the opposition totaled 44 seats in the Chamber and 7 in the Senate, establishing a new balance of power in the Argentine Congress.

In a speech in Buenos Aires, Milei celebrated the result and hailed what he called a historic turnaround. “It was a historic day for Argentina. The Argentine people decided to leave behind 100 years of decadence and persist on the path of freedom, progress, and growth. Today begins the construction of a great Argentina,” stated the president.

The election renewed half of the Chamber of Deputies—127 of the 257 seats—and one-third of the Senate, composed of 72 lawmakers. With the victory, Milei gains political momentum to advance his economic reforms and deepen the policy of rapprochement with the United States.
