Security: Government Creates Rules to Combat Terrorism

Brazil has published two administrative regulations to standardize procedures for blocking access to the assets and properties of individuals convicted of terrorism. This measure results from a resolution of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) aimed at preventing the financing and expansion of terrorism worldwide.

When individuals or companies are included on the UNSC sanctions lists for financing or participating in terrorist organizations and acts, countries must internally locate the assets, rights, and interests of these individuals or companies to block them and declare them unavailable without delay.

This is an important measure to prevent the financing and expansion of terrorism globally, focusing on preventing the funding of terrorist groups. Currently, several countries, individuals, and entities are subject to UNSC sanctions, which range from arms and ammunition trade embargoes with a country to the blocking of assets of individuals or companies and, in extreme cases, even food trade prohibitions if a country is threatening international peace.

Today, there are sanctions against terrorist groups such as ISIS, al-Qaeda, and the Taliban, as well as against countries like North Korea, Iraq, Congo, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and others.
