The Embassy and Consulates of the United States in Brazil announced on Friday (5) a significant milestone: 1.125 million visas were issued to Brazilians in 2023. According to the statement, the notable increase reflects the joint efforts made by the consulates across the country to reduce wait times for visa interviews and provide streamlined service.

• Embassy in Brasília: 173 thousand
• Consulate General in São Paulo: 517 thousand
• Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro: 230 thousand
• Consulate General in Recife: 87 thousand
• Consulate General in Porto Alegre: 118 thousand
“We are excited to witness such a substantial increase in visa issuances. This achievement not only highlights the strong ties between our two nations but also demonstrates the growing interest of Brazilians in exploring tourism and educational opportunities in the United States,” said Scott Riedmann, Acting Minister Counselor for Consular Affairs at the US Embassy and Consulates.
“In 2023, we increased the number of consular staff across the country, opened hundreds of thousands of additional appointments, prioritized visas for students returning to school, and streamlined the visa renewal process to better serve Brazilian travelers,” the statement emphasizes.
“This milestone is a testament to our ongoing dedication and commitment to expanding and improving the efficiency of our consular operations to meet this historic demand for visas,” it concludes.
