Brazil gains secretariat for the protection of intellectual rights

The Ministry of Culture (MinC) has an agency for copyright protection. A decree published in the Official Gazette modifies the structure of the ministry and creates the Secretariat for Copyright and Intellectual Property. Understand how it will work:DepartmentsThe initiative aims to combat the trafficking of cultural goods and piracy. To this end, the new secretariat will have two departments: the Regulatory Policy Department and the Monitoring, Registration, and Inspection Department. The Regulatory Policy Department will consist of the General Coordination of Regulation, International Negotiations, and Normative Analysis and the General Coordination of Dissemination and Promotion. The Monitoring, Registration, and Inspection Department will have the Coordinations of Registration and Qualification, and of Inspection and Combatting Piracy and Trafficking of Cultural Goods.ActionsWith the new secretariat, it will be possible to support and stimulate the development of revenue models in other environments, such as digital, especially on streaming platforms, which do not have specific regulation. It will also encourage new forms of revenue generation that provide income to intellectual creators and better conditions for competitive pricing for consumers. As a result, piracy will be discouraged.AwarenessThe promotion of a culture of respect for intellectual rights will also be carried out by the secretariat.
