The Beer Route in the United States

Follow the road that connects Montana to Arizona to discover some of the best craft beers in the USA. Savor different labels filled with local flavor and enjoy beautiful desert and mountain landscapes, complemented by incredible reddish rock formations. To make the most of the rugged West of the USA, land in Great Falls, Montana, where the first stop on the Craft Beer Trail is located. The city is situated at the confluence of the Missouri River and the Sun River and offers plenty of wildlife, as well as stunning views. Take the opportunity to hike one of the trails before visiting the Mighty Mo Brewing Company.

Start your adventure in the world of craft beer in Polson, Montana. This charming lakeside town offers adventures and beautiful scenery, along with several breweries. Stop by the Kerr Dam, which stands about 60 meters tall and has a 300-meter walkway that allows you to see the waterfalls from above and provides stunning views of the region’s canyons. The city of Polson is home to the Glacier Brewing Company, which offers beer tasting menus or mugs served outdoors. With a visit at the right time, you can also check out the bar of Moscow Brewing.

The next stop is Jackson, in the state of Wyoming, at the southern end of Jackson Hole Valley. In the city, be sure to take a photo at the Antler Arch monument in Jackson Town Square.

When you’re ready, head for the tasting tour and sample award-winning beers at Snake River Brewing Company and Roadhouse Brewery, two breweries that serve gourmet snacks with their craft labels! Reserve some time to explore the city’s outdoor attractions, which are close to attractions like Grand Teton National Park and the world-famous Yellowstone National Park.

The next stop will be Salt Lake City, Utah, a thriving city at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains. The city has it all: parks with beautiful scenery, mountain views, boutiques, a vibrant dining scene, and, of course, local breweries. Start your search for your new favorite label at Uinta Brewing, an American brewery founded in Utah in 1993. Then head to Squatters Pub, which served the first local beer in 1989 and is now known throughout the western USA.

A short drive away is Park City, also in Utah, a famous ski destination that also hosts the renowned Sundance Film Festival. After settling in, head to Wasatch Brewery, which proudly claims to be the first brewery in Utah and serves a wide variety of delicious beers. To set the beers aside for a bit, stop by the award-winning Distillery at High West, where you can take a tour, enjoy a guided whiskey tasting, and sample classic local dishes. Be sure to try the famous Campfire Whiskey. The next stop on the beer trail is the city of Denver, Colorado, which hosts the Great American Beer Festival and has so many breweries that it’s impossible to visit them all in one trip. On the way to Denver, stop in Fort Collins to tour the New Belgium Brewery, the fourth largest craft brewery in the USA. In Denver, take the opportunity to spend several days exploring the local craft breweries. The “mile-high city” boasts several well-known breweries and other attractions, such as the Denver Art Museum, LoDo, and Union Station. Among the main attractions are Denver’s first brewpub, Wynkoop Brewing Company, Great Divide Brewing Company, and Denver Beer Company. Denver is also home to Coors Brewery, a giant in the brewing industry and the largest brewery with unified facilities in the world.

Leave Denver for Albuquerque, New Mexico, and enjoy splendid views of the imposing Sandia Mountains. Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico, rich in history and many influences from native and Spanish colonial cultures. After exploring and appreciating the desert landscape and adobe-style buildings in the area, head to La Cumbre Brewing’s bar to sample their delicious craft labels. To wrap up the tour in style, visit the industrial microbrewery Bosque Brewing.

Continue driving to the sunny city of Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. This historic capital emerged in 1610 as a Spanish colony, which is evident in the central plaza, and is known for its iconic pueblo-style buildings. The city of Santa Fe is also recognized as an arts incubator, with numerous options for museums and art galleries along the famous Canyon Road. To get into the spirit, plan to spend an evening at the Santa Fe Opera House after visiting the Museum of International Folk Art. Keep the relaxed vibe going during your trip with barrel-aged beers made by The Santa Fe Brewing Company or a craft beer from Second Street Brewery.

The drive to Sedona, Arizona, offers even more stunning landscapes. Slide Rock State Park features beautiful reddish rock formations, tree-lined roads, and plenty of outdoor activities. Then head to Oak Creek Brewery and the Historic Barrel+Bottle House to sample various delicious beers. For an even wider variety, check out some of Sedona’s famous wines. One of the most popular tours is the Water to Wine, which combines a kayaking adventure on the Verde River with a tasting at Alcantara Vineyards.

After a beautiful two-hour drive, you will arrive in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, where plenty of adventure and craft beers await you. Head to the famous Camelback Mountain for a short hike that will reward you with panoramic views of the valley. Find your inner cowboy in Old Town Scottsdale. If you still have energy, check out the city’s museums and take a stroll through the artistic Roosevelt Row area. Next, enjoy your last mugs at Phoenix Brew or Four Peaks Brewery.
