Nine in Ten Brazilians Have Access to Mobile Telephony – The Brasilians

Nine in Ten Brazilians Have Access to Mobile Telephony

Nine out of ten Brazilians have access to mobile telephony, the telecommunications regulatory agency Anatel reported on Telecommunications Day.

The majority of Brazilians with access to mobile telephony live in capitals and metropolitan regions, the survey adds.

The data show that 4,363 of Brazil’s 5,565 municipalities have fiber optic infrastructure, making services faster, more stable, and more energy-efficient.

Anatel also highlights the introduction of 5G technology in 1,300 Brazilian cities and bets on the advancement of the government’s New Growth Acceleration Program – or Novo PAC –, which covers the implementation of 5G in the country’s 5,565 municipalities.

The Novo PAC also includes the expansion of 4G to 6,800 villages and rural areas distant from urban centers.

In a statement, Anatel’s Telecommunications Secretary, Hermano Tercius, said that the expansion of telecommunications services in Brazil faces challenges due to the country’s size and hard-to-reach areas. “The main challenge is to bring satisfactory connectivity while advancing other significant connectivity indicators, such as digital literacy.”

The Fazenda Ipê farm, in Baixa Grande do Ribeiro, in the state of Piauí, is the first in the country to have 5G technology in a rural area.

Consumer Satisfaction

In March, Anatel released the results of the 10th edition of its survey on satisfaction and perceived quality for fixed telephony, mobile telephony, fixed internet, and paid TV.

In 2024, more than two-thirds of the surveyed consumers said they were satisfied or very satisfied with the service provided, according to the customer satisfaction index. Meanwhile, more than 10% of consumers said they were very dissatisfied or dissatisfied.

The questionnaire also covers consumer usage patterns, Wi-Fi, and fixed phones.

In the most frequently used cellular network technology, although 4G is the most used, more than 64% of postpaid cellular consumers and 67% of prepaid ones believe there has been an increase in 5G usage.

Regarding the technology used to provide fixed internet, 78% use fiber optics.

Of the fixed phone users surveyed, 16% said that the fixed phone was their main means of making voice calls at home. These users are the oldest in the group, have the lowest average income, and are mostly women.

Finally, 67% of respondents who subscribe to paid TV said they use the service daily.

The survey was conducted from July to November 2024 with 64,000 consumers of fixed and mobile telephony, fixed internet, and paid TV services.
