Renowned stylist Giorgio Armani, symbol of Italian fashion and founder of the brand bearing his name, died this Thursday (4) at the age of 91. The information was confirmed by the Armani Group in a statement reproduced by the Reuters agency.
“With infinite sadness, the Armani Group announces the death of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani,” highlighted the official note released by the fashion house.
A name synonymous with style and business
Armani became known worldwide for combining aesthetic sophistication and business vision. His empire, which generated about 2.3 billion euros (approximately US$ 2.7 billion) per year, transformed the stylist into one of the most influential personalities in the sector. The minimalist elegance of his creations marked generations and consolidated Italian style on the international scene.
Nicknamed “Re Giorgio” (King Giorgio), the stylist was recognized for his obsessive attention to detail. He oversaw every stage of his collections’ production—from the conception of the pieces to advertising, even adjusting models’ hair before runway shows.
Failing health and farewell in Milan
In recent months, Armani had been facing health problems. In June, for the first time in his career, he did not attend his brand’s runway shows during Milan Men’s Fashion Week, a sign of the severity of his condition.
According to the company, a lying in state will be set up in Milan on Saturday and Sunday, where fans and admirers can pay their respects. The funeral will take place privately, on a date not yet announced.
