Encounters: 200 Years of Brazil-U.S. Friendship – The Brasilians

Encounters: 200 Years of Brazil-U.S. Friendship

On May 26, 1824, the United States became the first country to recognize Brazil’s independence. This exhibition celebrates 200 years of friendly, peaceful, and uninterrupted relations between the two largest nations in the Americas. Few countries can boast such a long and enduring bilateral relationship.

Originally held at the Palácio do Itamaraty in Brasília in 2024, the exhibition now arrives in New York in a bilingual format as the year of the bicentennial comes to a close. Through texts and historical images, it documents key moments that have shaped two centuries of diplomatic relations. The exhibition is primarily based on archival materials from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with contributions from other Brazilian institutions.

Where: Consulate General of Brazil in New York
