The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 1.2% in the second quarter of this year compared to the previous period. It is the fourth consecutive quarter in which the product recorded a positive result. The GDP reached R$ 2.404 trillion in current values.
The numbers were released today (Sept. 1) in Rio de Janeiro by IBGE, the government statistics agency, and reveal that the GDP grew 2.5% in the first half of the year.
Services
According to IBGE, the growth in the second quarter was influenced by a 1.3% increase in the services sector. The coordinator of National Accounts at IBGE, Rebeca Palis, reported that services account for 70% of the economy, which is why there is a greater impact on this result.
“Other service activities (3.3%), transportation (3.0%), and information and communication (2.9%) drove this increase. In this category, we have in-person services that were held back during the pandemic, such as restaurants and hotels, for example,” she added.
