Delta Air Lines expands connectivity between Rio and NY

Delta Air Lines continues to expand its connections between Brazil and the United States with a new nonstop flight between Rio de Janeiro and New York-JFK. Delta will connect the two cities with a daily service, starting southbound on December 21, 2017, and northbound the following day.

The airline’s strategic alliance with GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes will extend the reach of this service to 23 destinations in Brazil and provide seamless connections at Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG) in Rio de Janeiro. On the other end, Delta will offer 49 destinations in the U.S. from its hub at New York-JFK.

“By expanding our network to Rio de Janeiro and beyond, we are providing customers with more options to meet their travel needs,” said Luciano Macagno, Delta’s director for Brazil. “It’s exciting to have the opportunity to offer a daily nonstop flight from Rio de Janeiro to our second largest international hub at New York-JFK. Delta’s ongoing route expansions demonstrate our commitment to the Brazilian market and the strength of our alliance with our Brazilian partner, GOL.”

The GIG-JFK route will be operated with a Boeing 767-400 aircraft equipped with 40 fully flat Delta One seats with direct aisle access for all passengers. The aircraft also features large personal entertainment screens, allowing travelers to enhance productivity or rest better, as well as experience the on-demand audio/video entertainment system. Delta customers flying in Delta One will enjoy industry-leading meals with Latin America-inspired selections prepared by Chef Michelle Bernstein, paired with elegant wines selected by master sommelier Andrea Robinson.

The 246-passenger aircraft also includes 28 Delta Comfort+ seats and 178 seats in the Main Cabin. Delta’s latest enhancements include the introduction of new sleep kits and several other upgraded amenities for passengers seated in the main cabin on flights to and from Brazil. Customers flying in Delta Comfort+, Delta’s premium economy service, benefit from up to four additional inches of legroom and 50% more recline than standard Delta international Main Cabin seats; complimentary beer, wine, and snacks; and priority boarding. Other product initiatives being implemented across Delta’s international fleet include the expansion of its Wi-Fi service.

Elite customers and passengers flying in Delta One between Rio de Janeiro-GIG and New York-JFK will also benefit from a premium airport experience at the 24,000-square-foot Delta Sky Club flagship in Terminal 4 at JFK, the largest club in the Delta system, and at the newly opened GOL VIP lounge located in Terminal 2 at GIG.
