Brazil Invests in Teacher Training Programs

Making teacher training in Brazil more qualified is a way to improve the economy, strengthen democracy, and enhance citizens’ engagement, stated the President of the Republic, Michel Temer. On February 28, the Brazilian government announced an investment of over R$ 1 billion to create 190 spots in training programs. “The education of children and young people is, indeed, a great foundation for a prosperous economy, a vibrant democracy, and full citizenship, which is why we are striving to modernize education in the country,” said Temer. “This is a measure that will complement what our government has been doing in favor of the educational system.Measure

On March 1, the announcements were published in the Diário Oficial da União (DOU) for the 45,000 spots offered by the Institutional Program of Teaching Initiation Scholarship (Pibid), and another 45,000 for pedagogical residency. Additionally, 100,000 spots were offered for distance learning courses at the Universidade Aberta do Brasil (UAB).

Other projects to improve education were mentioned by the Minister of Education, Mendonça Filho, such as the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), high school reform, and the strengthening of full-time education.
