Avenues “The World School” to Open in São Paulo

Avenues: The World School, which opened its first campus in New York in 2012 as part of a planned global network of multiple schools from early childhood through 12th grade in major cities around the world – all connected by a distinct mission – announced the opening schedule for its campus in São Paulo.

The 300,000 square foot campus, currently under construction, will open its doors to its first students in August 2018. Avenues has signed a long-term lease with São Carlos, one of Brazil’s leading commercial real estate investment and management companies, to occupy the former Sul-America building, located in the vibrant Cidade Jardim neighborhood of São Paulo. As part of an investment exceeding $50 million from Avenues to launch the São Paulo campus, the building will be completely renovated and enhanced to become a world-class school facility designed by the renowned firm Aflalo & Gasperini. At full capacity, the campus will accommodate 2,100 students and 300 leaders, teachers, and staff.

“Avenues’ vision has always been to have a school with many campuses located in the world’s major cities,” said Jeff Clark, president and COO. “This vision takes a significant step toward realization with the announcement of our campus in São Paulo, the cultural and financial center of Brazil and the largest city in South America.”

Avenues São Paulo will hold an official launch event on March 16, 2017, marking the beginning of the school’s marketing and admissions efforts to enroll students for the 2018-19 academic year.

In March 2017, Avenues São Paulo will formally announce the details of its academic program, campus development, and admissions plans for our opening in August 2018, including a schedule of informative events for parents.

Alan Greenberg, co-founder of Avenues who has been leading the initiative in South America, noted that the school has assembled a “world-class” leadership team for Avenues São Paulo. The school director will be Hamilton “Ham” Clark, one of the most respected leaders of independent schools in the U.S., who is serving as Head of School at Avenues New York for the 2016-17 academic year. He will be joined by a team of highly qualified educational professionals.

Greenberg explained that, over the next two years, the team will spend a good amount of time at Avenues New York to learn, observe, contribute, and prepare for the opening in São Paulo, ensuring that the new campus aligns with Avenues’ shared global school priorities.

Clark noted that the São Paulo campus is just one of several expansion efforts currently in development for Avenues. Plans for campuses in China, Silicon Valley, London, Mexico City, Dubai, Miami, Doha, San Francisco, and Washington DC are also being developed.

A Global School

The mission of Avenues is to build a global school with interdependent and interconnected multiple campuses located in some of the world’s major cities, serving from early childhood to 12th grade, with an emphasis on global preparation and fluency in a second language. “A New School of Thought” captures Avenues’ mission and focuses on shaping accomplished students who feel comfortable beyond their borders; sharing the school’s prosperity; providing teachers and staff with an environment where they can thrive; and advancing education. Avenues’ first campus opened in New York in September 2012 to unprecedented demand of 750 students. Today, Avenues New York serves over 1,500 students and graduated its first high school class in June 2016.
