Life expectancy at birth in Brazil reached 76.4 years in 2023, according to data released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and published in the Official Gazette of the Union. There was an increase of 0.9 years compared to 2022, when life expectancy was 75.5 years. The complete data from the Mortality Tables research will be released by IBGE.
According to IBGE, the research provides estimates of life expectancy at exact ages up to 80 years, with a reference date of July 1st, allowing for insights into the levels and patterns of mortality in the Brazilian population.
Life expectancy is used to calculate the so-called previdenciary factor for determining the values related to the pensions of workers under the General Social Security System.
