Following the same exploratory tour, the Carnival Experience, promoted by the Samba School Grande Rio, opens its workshop for visitors who want to learn a bit more about the creation and production of a parade, long before it takes place at the Sambódromo da Marquês de Sapucaí (next year, it will occur from February 9 to 17, 2024).
This unique experience shows how the allegories and costumes of the school are produced, the carnival designs, how the costumes and the assembly of the large floats are made by hand, and closely displays the hard work of the professionals involved in the production of a parade; in addition to presenting the workshop of the Pimpolhos da Grande Rio, a children’s school maintained by Grande Rio that started in 2002, which, more than an important social project, helps to train the carnival artists of tomorrow.
The initiative, promoted by Camila Soares and Akiva Potasman, presents the history of samba from the school itself, in addition to putting visitors in a carnival mood, with costumes available to wear and take photos, and welcome caipirinhas. The Carnival Experience project also offers tours that include visits to the school facilities in Duque de Caxias, festivals, feijoadas, samba and percussion rehearsals, and workshops, as well as a tour of the birthplace of samba, known as ‘Pequena África’, in Gamboa.
