US President Donald Trump criticized Russian leader Vladimir Putin, calling him “crazy” after an intense Russian aerial attack against Ukraine. The attack, which occurred over the weekend, involved 367 drones and missiles, resulting in at least 13 deaths. Trump expressed his frustration on his Truth Social platform, stating that Putin is “playing with fire” and that his actions could lead to the “fall of Russia”.
Russia’s escalation of aerial attacks comes at a time when Trump is considering the possibility of new sanctions against Moscow. Although he stated that he would “certainly” consider new measures, he has not yet made a definitive decision. Senator Lindsey Graham, a Trump ally, also pressed for harsher sanctions, suggesting a 500% increase in tariffs on imports from countries that buy Russian oil and gas.
In response to Trump’s statements, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the US president’s remarks will not affect prisoner exchange negotiations between the countries. Recently, Putin and Trump agreed to a swap of nine prisoners on each side. Peskov emphasized that both parties have the political will to continue with the agreements despite the tensions.
Trump also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, warning that his statements are “causing problems.” He questioned what happened to Putin, stating that the Russian leader is “killing a lot of people.” The situation remains tense, with Russia intensifying its attacks while Trump weighs the imposition of new sanctions.
