Georgia Appeals Court Indefinitely Pauses Election Subversion Case Against Donald Trump

A Georgia appeals court has suspended the conspiracy case of election subversion against Donald Trump and several of his co-defendants – a massive victory for the former president who seeks to delay other legal issues until 2025, after the November elections, when he will attempt to reach the White House once again.

The new order issued on Wednesday (5) by the Georgia Appeals Court is the latest indication that a trial in the Georgia state election subversion case will not occur before the 2024 presidential elections. The court stated that the case will remain on hold until a panel of judges decides whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should be disqualified.

The appeals court is expected to rule on the disqualification issue by March 2025, although it could issue a decision sooner. Several sources close to the case told CNN that the timeline remains very uncertain.

Trump and some of his co-defendants in the extensive subversion case have been trying to disqualify Willis from the case due to a romantic relationship she had with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor she hired to help handle the case. The defendants argued that Willis financially benefited from her relationship with Wade, which, according to defense attorneys, covered several vacations for the couple.
