The Ministry of Regional Development (MDR) and the U.S. Department of the Treasury signed a memorandum of understanding on May 10, which will enable bilateral technical assistance in the areas of water security, irrigation, recovery and rehabilitation of watersheds, sanitation, housing, and public lighting. The aim is to work on best international practices in modeling infrastructure projects in these areas, with a view to enhancing the attraction of foreign investments for projects coordinated by the ministry.
According to the memorandum of understanding, the U.S. government will provide, at no cost to the Brazilian side, a specialized consultant who will work directly with the technical area of the MDR to identify the main demands and bottlenecks regarding the attraction of private resources for the ministry’s works. The work plan is to be presented within 60 days.
During the signing, the Minister of Regional Development, Rogério Marinho, emphasized the importance of the partnership with the U.S. government. “We want to leverage the expertise that the U.S. Treasury has in all collaboration projects.”
The U.S. Ambassador to Brazil, Todd Chapman, in turn, highlighted that the country’s commitment to the bilateral relationship is expressed by bringing to Brazil an advisor with the mission of identifying instruments to streamline the attraction of private investments.
