How to celebrate the year-end holidays without hugs, loud laughter, and conversations at the table? Until weeks ago, at least for the more optimistic, the year-end festivities seemed like a glimmer of hope to close out this difficult 2020. But it shouldn’t be that way, at least not for everyone. With that in mind, the founders of Palavra Cantada will hold a special interactive virtual Christmas presentation on December 6th.
It is the first time that the founders and musicians, Sandra Peres and Paulo Tatit, are performing in this format, on a streaming platform (technology that allows viewers to watch live shows on any internet-connected device), which can be seen by fans from all over Brazil and any country in the world.
Palavra Cantada has always reached the Brazilian audience and also the Latino community in the United States. “Today, with social media monitoring, it’s easier to count, and the U.S. represents our third largest audience in views, followed only by Brazil and Portugal. We receive daily reports from mothers who move abroad and use Palavra Cantada’s songs for their children to practice the language. In 2014, we held a large event with the participation of 250 children, accompanied by their families from the Brazilian community, who gathered at the auditorium of the City University of New York,” says Sandra Peres.
The musicians have prepared various games to entertain the children, who will be able to interact and play at home with their entire family, to the sound of Palavra Cantada’s greatest hits, new songs, and Christmas music.
For Sandra, everything is being thought out so that children and families have fun together with the duo: “It has been a year practically without shows, without direct contact with the children, without eye-to-eye interaction. The idea is for it to be a different program where we can interact as if we were together in the
living room, with lots of music, joy, and virtual Christmas hugs,” affirms Sandra.
In this show, children and families will hear, sing, and dance to songs like “Sopa”, “Rato”, “Bolacha de Água e Sal”, “De Gotinha em Gotinha”, “Eu sou um Bebezinho”, “Pomar”, “Pé com Pé”, “Alienígenas”, “Tartaruga e o Lobo”, among other attractions. Paulo believes it will be a memorable show for the kids: “We are preparing some cool surprises for the children. My wish is to pass on to them the joy of singing and playing instruments,” he says.
The show will feature special guests and the presence of Santa Claus, who will answer children’s questions live. Every detail of the production is being thought out with great care to bring the enchantment and musical quality of the live show to the virtual space with the safety that children and parents deserve.
Get the kids ready and grab the wooden spoons to sing the song Sopa, a sheet to play Ghost, and choose your favorite fruits to have fun with the rich Pomar of songs from the Palavra Cantada show. Access will be sold for R$ 30 (one access per family), with a portion going to the Instituto Baccarelli. The access is valid for everyone enjoying together in the same room. Fun is guaranteed!
Palavra Cantada
Music, play, and education have gone hand in hand since 1994, when Palavra Cantada was founded by musicians Sandra Peres (composition, piano, keyboards, and voice) and Paulo Tatit (composition, bass, guitar, and voice). The idea is to create original melodies, lyrics, and arrangements, always keeping an eye on a poetics that respects the intelligence and sensitivity of children. Quality and success follow the same rhythm.
Since its inception, Palavra Cantada has been awarded and praised by critics, thanks to this careful work. Six of the duo’s albums have won awards. The Brazilian Music Award (formerly known as Prêmio Sharp, Prêmio TIM, and Prêmio CARAS) has been received six times. In total, there are 16 CDs, 10 DVDs, and 7 books released, always with the concern of valuing Brazilian culture, rhythms, and instruments. Another highlight is the intimate and welcoming relationship the duo builds with children and their families: the shows have been attended by over 1.5 million people, and the YouTube channel has 1.7 million subscribers and 1 million daily views.
Pauleco and Sandreca are characters inspired by Paulo and Sandra and are present in many of Palavra Cantada’s animated music videos.
