Emergency Works at the National Museum Begin

The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) has signed a contract with Concrejato Serviços Técnicos de Engenharia S/A to carry out emergency repairs. As a result, a construction site has been set up next to the institution. The actions were initiated after the Ministry of Education (MEC) released R$ 8.9 million for the museum.

According to the ministry, the first interventions will involve structural reinforcement of walls and areas at risk of collapse. Subsequently, a roof will be installed on the building. “This initial funding will allow the contracted company to set up supports, the roof, and also the containers that will provide support during this phase of sorting the collection that is still there,” stated Henrique Sartori, executive secretary of the MEC.

The next phase of the renovation will focus on the interior of the palace. In this stage, the museum is expected to receive around R$ 5 million from the MEC.

In September, the National Museum presented the festival Museu Nacional Vive at Quinta da Boa Vista. During the event, it was possible to see part of the preserved collection of the museum, which consists of approximately two million pieces.
