New Hampshire and Outdoor Life

New Hampshire may seem small on the map, but its diverse regions offer a variety of destinations and attractions, from historic river valleys to the towering peaks of the highest mountains in the Northeast.Stone wall-lined roads lead to villages that represent the essence of New England, miles of scenic beauty forests and parks, inviting lakes, rural landscapes that look like postcards, and a wealth of outdoor fun opportunities.

This state knows how to flaunt its New England charm. In the fall, a scenic drive through mountains and valleys passes by farms and rural villages at the moment when the leaves seem to be on fire. Sugar houses invite you to tap maple syrup, pumpkin patches wave from the roadside, and mills serve steaming mugs of freshly made cider.

The colony of New Hampshire was born in Portsmouth in 1623, and the traces of the state’s vibrant colonial history are seen everywhere: from history museums that recreate the colonial way of life to towns that seem untouched by time. Being a small state, getting to know it doesn’t take much time, and either way, you will really want to explore all its corners. There are beaches, snowy mountains, and enchanting forests to discover, and countless ways to experience them: sleigh rides, ski slopes, dog sledding, snow tubing, climbing, and even deer safaris.

The official drink of the state of New Hampshire is apple cider.

Although New Hampshire borders the Atlantic Ocean, the state’s coastline is not the only water attraction for visitors. The Lakes Region — about 180 kilometers north of Boston, Massachusetts — boasts 273 lakes and ponds, and Lake Winnipesaukee alone offers a shoreline longer than the entire coastline of the state in the Northeast.

Because of this, the Lakes Region is a traditional summer retreat for local New Englanders, but the area has enough activities to keep travelers entertained year-round.
