Madonna – The Brasilians

Madonna Louise Ciccone (1958) was born in Bay City, Michigan, USA, on August 16, 1958. The daughter of an Italian family, she became an orphan at the age of five. She taught dance and piano. She received a scholarship to the University of Michigan. When she was in her first semester, she was invited to study dance in New York, where she moved. In New York, she was invited to work as a backing vocalist for Patrick Hernandez during his performance in the United States.

In 1982, Madonna released her first single “Everybody” and the album “Madonna”. But it was with the album “Like a Virgin” that she achieved greater success, topping the best-seller list. In the video for “Material Girl”, where the singer imitated Marilyn Monroe, she showcased her performative side. By 1986, she reached the peak of her career with the album “True Blue”, which contained hit songs: “La Isla Bonita” and “Live to Tell”. In 1987, she embarked on a major tour titled “Who’s That Girl World Tour”.

In 1989, the album “Like a Prayer” caused her problems due to the
music video of the same name, which was banned by the Vatican and censored in Catholic countries. Despite this, it is one of the best in her discography.

In 1990, another controversy arose with the video for “Justify my Love”, which featured scenes of sadomasochism. In the same year, she participated in the film “Dick Tracy” alongside actor Warren Beatty, with whom she had a romantic relationship. In 1996, she won a Golden Globe for her role in the film “Evita”. After some less notable works, she released the album “Ray of Light”, considered one of the best of her career and, according to Rolling Stone magazine, one of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

During the 2000s, the album “Confessions on the Dance Floor”, released in 2005, stood out. It was considered the best in the electronic dance genre that year at the Grammy Awards. The song “Hung Up” was a hit in 47 countries. This was followed by “Hard Candy” (2009), which had Hip Hop influences, but did not achieve the same success as the previous album.

In 2012, Madonna released the album “MDNA”, which took her on a tour across major countries, including Brazil. In 2015, she released her 13th album “Rebel Heart”.
