Digital Licensing in Brazil – The Brasilians

Digital Licensing in Brazil

To make life easier for drivers in Brazil who own more than one mobile device or want to lend the digital document to a third party, from now on, drivers will be able to share the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate (CRLV Digital) with up to five other mobile devices at the same time.

In the case of owners who wish to lend the CRLV Digital to others, they must ensure that the driver has the Digital Driver’s License (CDT) on their phone. This feature allows, for example, family members to also have the digital version of the document, avoiding problems in case they do not carry the printed version.

• Those who already have the CNH Digital app will only need to update this app, which will be transformed into the Digital Driver’s License.

• When there is a need to change the device on which the app is installed, the Digital Driver’s License must be downloaded again on the new device, using the same CPF and access password.

• The included documents will be available in the app regardless of internet access.
The digital version of the CRLV contains all the information from the printed document, in addition to a QR Code that can be scanned to verify if there is any forgery in the document during a traffic inspection. To gain access to the CRLV Digital, the vehicle’s licensing from 2018 must be up to date. Furthermore, the Detran where the vehicle is registered must have already adopted the technology.

So far, more than 19,000 Digital CRLVs have been made available in the states that enabled its use: Ceará, Rondônia, and the Federal District. Last Friday, Goiás also implemented the new feature. All Detrans in the country must adapt to the service by the end of this year. On the Serpro website, it is possible to check which Detran has already adopted the CRLV Digital.
