The National Public Security Force has already begun to reinforce policing in municipalities of the metropolitan region of Natal (RN). The teams have started to operate in Parnamirim, Macaíba, Vera Cruz, and Ielmo Marinho. The change occurs to better distribute patrolling in Rio Grande do Norte.
The measure was adopted after the Armed Forces, subordinate to the Ministry of Defense, took control of public security operations in the state. The Army coordinates the patrolling and has garrisons, especially in the capital and in Mossoró, the largest cities in the state.
Since February 2017, the National Force has been acting against crime and violence in Natal, as part of the National Public Security Plan. The operation was extended by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJ) for another six months, at the request of the state government. The personnel was also reinforced by one hundred men.
The work of the National Force occurs in collaboration with local public security agencies, through integrated actions of ostensive policing, judicial police, and forensic expertise. The goal is to assist in reducing intentional homicides and violence against women.National Force
The National Public Security Force is a program of federative cooperation to assist public security at any point in the country. Currently, the Force is conducting 16 operations in ten states.
In addition to the National Force, the ministry has maintained in Natal, since January, the Penitentiary Intervention Task Force (FTIP), managed by the National Penitentiary Department (Depen/MJ), in support of the state prison system.
