When the first flakes of snow begin to accumulate on the ground, ski lovers from all over the world rush to the United States to tackle some of the most renowned slopes on the planet. It doesn’t matter if you’re hitting the trails for the first time or if you’re the type who can’t wait for the arrival of the light snow; the possibilities for memorable vacations on skis or snowboards in the U.S. are endless.ski-3There are countless ski areas in the U.S., so we highlight some of the most popular ski and snowboard regions in the country to serve as a starting point to help you plan your next snow vacation.

Just 52 kilometers southeast of Salt Lake City, Park City is among the popular ski locations in Utah. Park City has three major slopes: Canyons Resort, Deer Valley Resort (a ski-only resort), and Park City Mountain Resort. When you add the other renowned ski and snowboarding areas nearby, such as Snowbird and Alta (another ski-only area), you’ll have a total of 426 runs and bowls across more than 3,600 acres of snow-covered terrain.

One of the most famous winter sports centers in the northeastern United States since the 1930s, Stowe is a challenge even for the most experienced skiers and snowboarders. The tiny mountain town located about 60 kilometers east of Burlington, Vermont, caters to advanced skiers with its renowned trails. But there are also slopes for beginners.ski-1Within the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains, and about 320 kilometers southwest of Denver, lies Aspen-Snowmass, synonymous with skiing excellence. This is largely due to the four exclusive ski resorts: Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, and Buttermilk. Due to the high snowfall rates in Colorado, all slopes open in late November and welcome skiers and snowboarders until mid-April. If you want to take a break from the slopes without losing a day in the snow, you can try cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in the nearby White River National Forest.

Whether you’re an expert or just a beginner, Bozeman has something for you. Southern Montana is best known for Big Sky Resort, located 81 kilometers southwest of Bozeman, which boasts about 2,350 acres of slopes, making it the largest ski and snowboarding resort in the country. Open from late November to mid-April, the main attraction of Big Sky is Lone Peak, a 3,403-meter-high peak that has areas for both beginners and seasoned pros.
