Brazil will export sesame and import corn seeds – The Brasilians

Brazil will export sesame and import corn seeds

Brazil will export sesame to India and will start importing corn seeds from that country. The exchange between the two countries was announced by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Tereza Cristina, at the Business Day Brazil-India Seminar, organized by the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (Apex) in New Delhi.

“I bring to Brazil a gain, which is the opening of sesame exports from Brazil to India – a major producer of this commodity. Brazil will be able to contribute by meeting the demand for sesame, which is important for a new crop that Brazil has been developing,” said the minister.

In return, Brazil will import corn seeds from India. “We are opening exports of corn seeds to India, bringing Indian technology to Brazil. This will be very important for the beginning of cooperation between our governments,” she argued.

Brazilian exports of sesame seeds totaled US$ 3.7 million in 2018 and US$ 25.4 million in 2019, which represented an increase of 596%. Last year, the main destinations were: Vietnam (25%), Guatemala (15%), Turkey (12%), and Saudi Arabia (12%).

On the last day of the mission to India, the minister participated in a business meeting in New Delhi, integrating the delegation of President Jair Bolsonaro. The minister highlighted the growth prospects of trade relations between the two countries, especially in the agricultural sector. “I emphasize that the potential for trade and investment between Brazil and India is enormous and needs to be better utilized. I am fully convinced that the expansion of these exchanges will quickly result in socioeconomic growth for our countries,” said the minister at the seminar.
