The event was created in 1984 by João de Matos as a way to celebrate Brazil’s Independence. Initially, the party was limited to 46th Street, known as Little Brazil; but over the years it grew so much that it had to be moved to 6th Avenue. Today, BR Day NY attracts over 1 million people who spread out annually across various blocks of 6th Avenue to see and hear great hits of Brazilian music.Axé Star Brings the Energy of Bahia to NY
