Newark Airport: Modern and Closer Than You Think

Newark Liberty International Airport is one of the three major airports serving the New York metropolitan area (the others being John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia in New York) and the main airport serving the state of New Jersey. Recent upgrades are making this airport the preferred option for many travelers.

The United Airlines, the largest tenant of the airport (operating in the three terminals in Newark) has introduced several improvements in Terminal C in recent years to meet the needs of its customers.

The airline redesigned the security checkpoint in Terminal C to include 17 state-of-the-art automated screening lanes, allowing customers to pass through the security process more quickly. Terminal C at Newark Liberty is the first checkpoint in the country to feature exclusively the new lanes.

“The opening of our completely redesigned and state-of-the-art security area in Newark continues our commitment to enhancing our customers’ experience,” said Greg Hart, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of United.

In 2014, the company opened a new Global Services reception lobby for its top and most frequent passengers and collaborated with OTG to present a unique dining experience, featuring cutting-edge technology and innovative design in the Terminal.

Last month, United Airlines debuted its new United Polaris Lounge, featuring sofas, showers, private dining, and much more for customers traveling in United Polaris, the airline’s premium cabin. Among the various amenities, the lounge offers a private dining area with table service for up to 48 people, with a menu developed by New York chef John Glowacki and a bistro-style buffet that includes homemade bagels and sandwiches.
Simple Route

Getting to Manhattan from Newark (or vice versa) is simple and quicker than you think. As soon as you exit the passenger restricted area, look for signs to the AIRTRAIN. This is a free train to the airport. Take the AIRTRAIN to the Newark Liberty Airport Station.

At the Newark Liberty Airport Train Station, purchase a ticket to New York Penn Station. The fare is $13 each way. Trains run approximately every 10 minutes. In 30 minutes, you will arrive at Penn Station, Midtown, Manhattan.

Six NJ TRANSIT trains arrive every hour on weekdays between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM at the airport station. Between 9 PM and midnight, four trains arrive each hour. Service is not available every night between approximately 2:00 AM and 5:00 AM.

If you prefer to use a car, the trip from New York, Midtown to Newark Liberty can be quicker than to JFK Airport in Queens. The average travel time to Newark during rush hour is about 53 minutes, while the average time to JFK is 69 minutes.
