New Scenic Tourist Train to Cross Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais – The Brasilians

New Scenic Tourist Train to Cross Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais

The tours will be offered on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, and it is expected that they will boost tourism activity in the cities along the route.

A new tourist train will connect the states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro: starting in the second half of the year, tourists will be able to travel along a new scenic route through eight cities in both states. The trains have already been restored, and nine carriages are being prepared to transport tourists along the 160 km route from Cataguases (Minas Gerais) to Três Rios (Rio de Janeiro).

According to information from the Ministry of Tourism, the six remaining cities along the route are Leopoldina, Recreio, Volta Grande, Além Paraíba, and Chiador (in Minas) and Sapucaia (in Rio). The tours will be offered on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, and it is expected that they will enhance tourism activity in the municipalities crossed by the route.

The Rio-Minas Tourist Train project is coordinated by “Friends of the Train” (a Civil Society Organization of Public Interest) in partnership with the involved municipalities and private companies in the region. The Centro Atlântica company (railway concessionaire) will operate the trains, and various Brazilian government organizations linked to the railway sector will also provide support.
