Mocidade Alegre is the new champion of the São Paulo Carnival. The judging of the jurors’ votes took place on this Tuesday afternoon (17), and the victory came after a fierce dispute against Gaviões da Fiel and Dragões da Real.
The champion scored 269.8 points. Gaviões, the runner-up, scored 269.7 points. Dragões, in third place, had 269.6 points.
Mocidade Alegre paraded at the Anhembi Sambódromo on the second night with the samba-enredo “Malunga Léa, Rapsódia de uma Deusa Negra”, which highlighted the role of actress Léa Garcia in racial equality in the country and her trajectory as a militant and leader from theater and cinema. She died in 2023, at the age of 90.
Mocidade’s parade at the Anhembi Sambódromo referenced some of Léa’s main works, such as the classic soap opera Escrava Isaura, released by Globo in 1976. Other works featuring the actress in cinema were also mentioned, such as the film Orfeu Negro from 1959.
With this conquest, Mocidade Alegre reaches its 13th title in the São Paulo carnival. The school’s last trophy had been raised in 2024.
Rosas de Ouro, the 2025 São Paulo Carnival champion, was relegated. The school was penalized for failing to submit documents and entered the Sambódromo with half a point less. Rosas scored 268.4 points, which sent it to the Access Group. Águia de Ouro, with 268.2 points, was also relegated.
Acadêmicos do Tucuruvi, champion of this year’s Access Group, will join the Special Group in 2027.
Pérola Negra also rises to the Special Group. The school finished tied with Mancha Verde, both with 269.4 points, but Pérola prevailed in the tiebreaker criterion.
