Michael Walz Group Presents Brazilian Music Outdoors Amidst Flowers in NY

Jazz, bossa nova, that typical Brazilian samba outdoors, in a flower-filled garden in the midst of the urban jungle that is New York. Dream? No! This event, promoted by the West Side Community Garden, is scheduled for Sunday, May 28, at 6 PM, at 123 West 89th St (between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues).

On this occasion, The Michael Walz Group will present a musical and social cross-section of the musical styles from Rio de Janeiro, from the smooth Bossa Nova and Samba Jazz from Copacabana to the high-energy percussive Samba from the famous suburban Samba Schools during a 1.5-hour concert.

This will be the first performance of the 16th Annual Concert Season promoted by the West Side Community Garden. The event is FREE and open to the general public – including children and seniors.

The West Side Community Garden is a community garden, a true oasis in the daily life of those passing through the neighborhood or living nearby. The garden is maintained by a fully volunteer team dedicated to ensuring that all neighbors – residents, local schools, and social service providers – can enjoy the special events and activities that take place on-site.

The garden was founded in 1976 on a vacant lot filled with trash on Columbus Avenue as part of an urban renewal project. The goal in building something like this was to provide a green and peaceful space where everyone could relax. It is the only garden in New York City fully funded by grants and donations and entirely managed by volunteers.

The West Side Community Garden is open from dawn to dusk every day.
