Market Expects Dollar to Fall to R$ 5.20 by Year-End

The financial market predicts that the dollar will end the year 2024 quoted at R$ 5.20. This information is part of the Focus Bulletin, released on Monday (8) by the Central Bank (BC). The weekly study brings the median of estimates from financial institutions for the country’s economy this year and also for the next three years.

Last week, the dollar closed quoted at R$ 5.46. Just a few days earlier, on July 2, the dollar had closed the trading session at R$ 5.66.

The behavior of the American currency against the real directly influences the performance of the Brazilian economy. With the devalued exchange rate, meaning a rise in the foreign currency, imported goods become more expensive, which puts upward pressure on inflation. However, it favors exports because it makes Brazilian products cheaper abroad.

On the other hand, a stronger currency – a decrease in the exchange rate – makes imported products cheaper in the country, which can be a relief for inflation. But it can be detrimental to the national industry, which needs to compete with foreign products that have more competitive prices.
