Another Mass Shooting in the U.S.

A shooter killed six people and injured at least four inside a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia, on the night of Tuesday, November 22. This was the second mass shooting in the United States in three days, after five people were killed at a gay club in Colorado Springs on Saturday, November 19.

The shooter used a handgun and was found dead in the store, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said local police chief Mark Solesky.

Neither the shooter nor the victims had been identified by early afternoon on Wednesday, November 23. But Solesky reported that the shooter was an employee of the store and is believed to have acted alone.

President Biden issued a statement mourning this latest tragedy:

“Jill and I mourn for these families, for the Chesapeake community, and for the Virginia community, which just suffered a terrible shooting at the University of Virginia earlier this month. We also mourn for all those across America who have lost loved ones because of these tragic shootings that we must come together as a nation to confront,” Biden said in the written statement.

He added: “Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, one of our most cherished holidays that brings us together as Americans and as families, when we embrace our loved ones and count our blessings. But because of another act of horrible and senseless violence, there are now even more empty seats at tables across the country this Thanksgiving.”

In the statement, the president called for “greater action” on gun reform.
