It’s peak tourist season in Brazil

With the arrival of winter in the Northern Hemisphere, the Southern Hemisphere is gearing up for a very hot summer season. If you want to escape the cold, it’s a great time to visit Brazil.

The South American country expects a large influx of tourists next year. Brazil’s tourism sector is projected to generate R$ 155.87 billion during the peak season — from November this year to February 2024 — according to research by the National Confederation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC). The entity states that this amount represents a real increase of 5.6% compared to the same period last season, marking the highest financial revenue for the sector since the beginning of the research in 2012.

Tourism was one of the sectors most severely affected by COVID-19 in 2020. After a contraction of 36.7% that year, it advanced by 22.2% in 2021 and 39.9% last year. In September 2023, the real revenue of the sector rose by 7.9%, according to IBGE. The CNC estimates that 85,795 jobs will be created during the peak season — the highest volume since 2014.

According to the president of CNC, José Roberto Tadros, the real increase in wages, the reduction of consumer interest rates, and the stabilization of prices contribute to this recovery.

“The optimism reflected in the survey numbers indicates not only an economic recovery in tourism but also a renewed consumer confidence, driving the travel market and contributing to job creation in various areas related to the sector,” he said in a statement.
