(Im)Possible Lines – Lo Leão’s Solo Exhibition Debuts in New York

Lo Leão’s first international exhibition will take place at the Consulate General of Brazil in New York from April 11 to May 24, 2024. Known for her meticulous wood embroidery technique, Lo Leão draws inspiration from Brazilian tile art, her origins, and the modernist movement. With a family legacy steeped in handmade craftsmanship, the artist has transformed the ancient art of embroidery into an innovative contemporary expression.

In her solo showcase in New York, curated and executed by “Nomade Art Projects,” Lo Leão unveils over 100 pieces from her collections Azulejaria, Essência, Entrelinhas, and Bits. Through a variety of artworks, objects, modules, and furniture, she invites viewers on a journey through the complexities of her craft. Each piece encapsulates Lorena’s deep connection to Brazilian culture and her innovative approach to preserving its essence.

The exhibition also pays tribute to the iconic tile art of the Pampulha Modern Ensemble in Belo Horizonte – Minas Gerais / Brazil, a UNESCO World Heritage site, weaving a narrative that perfectly intertwines tradition with modernity. As visitors explore the exhibition, they are transported to a place where heritage and innovation converge. Lorena’s showcase not only celebrates her artistic prowess but also serves as a testament to Brazil’s cultural richness in the artistic landscape of New York City.

The opening ceremony will be on April 11, from 6 PM to 8 PM.

The Brazilian consulate in New York is located at 225 E 41st Street, New York, NY.
