Victims of human trafficking have obtained the right to permanent residency in Brazil.
To have an identification document issued, foreigners must appear in person before the Federal Police carrying an official letter or a technical report issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office, or the Labor Inspection, confirming the occurrence of the crime and the need to formalize their migratory status.
In addition, applicants must present a passport or travel document proving their identity; a declaration, under penalty of law, that they are not defendants in any legal proceedings nor have been convicted of any crime in Brazil or abroad; two passport-sized photographs; and a consular certificate containing their personal data and that of their parents.
The Ministry of Justice’s Ordinance establishes that if the documents presented are fully compliant with all requirements, the Federal Police will proceed with the registration and issuance of the foreigner’s identification.
