National Force to Reinforce Security at the Olympics

The Ministry of Justice and Citizenship has authorized the deployment of the National Force at the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, in support of the Extraordinary Secretariat for Security for Major Events (Sesge). The operation and the number of professionals to be made available will follow the joint planning between the involved agencies.PreparationThe training of the National Force for the Olympics began in October of last year. Specific training for action at major events has already been conducted in the Federal District and in the States of Paraná, Acre, Rondônia, Goiás, Tocantins, Amazonas, Rio Grande do Norte, Amapá, Paraíba, Roraima, Ceará, Piauí, Mato Grosso do Sul, Sergipe, Pernambuco, and Santa Catarina.TrainingTo ensure the safety of the Olympic competition facilities, training, and accommodation of the delegations, the Force also promoted courses and internships in riot operations, which included pre-hospital care, motorcycle training, operations with motorcycles, self-defense, and immobilization and control of civil disturbances, as well as physical and technical training for the escort of the Olympic torch and medals. Officers of the troop, which is being mobilized for the Olympics, also underwent bomb disposal courses, standardization of operational technical procedures with chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear agents, operational security management systems, and local security.
