Immersive Exhibitions of Frida Kahlo and Claude Monet Arrive in NYC

The trend of immersive exhibitions is here to stay. After Van Gogh and Gustav Klimt, two new shows featuring two iconic artists are coming to New York. “Frida Kahlo. The Life of an Icon” will open in Brooklyn on October 27. “Monet’s Garden The Immersive Experience” opens in November on Wall Street, the city’s financial district.

“Frida Kahlo, The Life of an Icon,” produced by the Frida Kahlo Corporation and the Spanish digital arts center Layers of Reality, will occupy a pavilion in the Dumbo area (Brooklyn) with seven different exhibition spaces, allowing visitors to enter the life and work of the Mexican artist, who continues to inspire and influence generations.

The innovative proposal explores the artist’s biography through collections of historical photographs, original films, digital environments, artistic installations, collector’s items, and newly created music that reproduces the most significant moments of Frida’s life, inviting visitors to discover the incredible story that built the myth.

Before its debut in New York, the exhibition toured Europe and has been set up in other American cities, including Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and Albuquerque. After New York, the show is expected to move to cities in Canada and some countries in Latin America.

The Impressionist florals of Claude Monet will bloom in the autumn of New York. “Monet’s Garden The Immersive Experience” will open in November at the historic Seamen’s Bank Building on Wall Street, bringing the masterpieces of the famous artist to the heart of the city’s financial district.

Starting November 4, visitors to the exhibition will see the inspiration and story behind some of Monet’s masterpieces through visual, auditory, and even olfactory stimuli.

Through “experimental” galleries, enhanced by a lavender scent and classical music, visitors will learn about Monet through a narration that will be offered in multiple languages. It will also showcase where the “Founder of Impressionism” created his art, including a recreation of Monet’s bridge and a world-famous garden landscape in Giverny, Normandy. His paintings of water lilies are presented at the end of the experience – the entire room transforms into a gigantic water lily lake.

The show is a project of the Swiss creative lab Immersive Art AG and Alegria Konzert GmbH and is currently being exhibited in Berlin, Zurich, and Mülheim with plans for exhibitions in Vienna, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Munich, Stockholm, and London. A national tour in the United States is planned for 2023.
