President Joe Biden told reporters at the White House on Friday (12) that he expects Iran to attack Israel “sooner or later.”
“I don’t want to get into classified information, but my expectation is sooner or later,” Biden said to reporters when asked how imminent an Iranian attack on Israel would be.
When asked what his message to Iran is at this moment, the president said: “Don’t do it.”
Questioned about whether American troops were at risk – Biden returned to the podium and said that the United States is “dedicated” to Israel’s defense.
“We are dedicated to Israel’s defense. We will support Israel, help defend Israel, and Iran will not succeed,” Biden said.
The US has been on high alert for a significant Iranian retaliatory attack against Israel in recent days, as fears of a broader regional war grow.
There continues to be a “real,” “credible,” and “viable” threat of Iran launching attacks, the White House said on Friday (12), following Israel’s attack on an Iranian diplomatic complex in Syria last week, which killed three Iranian generals.
The US is not anticipating that Iran or its proxies will attack US forces as part of their retaliation, but they are mobilizing troops just to be safe.
The US and several other countries, including Britain and France, have issued new travel guidelines for government officials in Israel as the Iranian threat looms.
