After the Separation, Tom Brady Announces Retirement, This Time, “Forever”

Tom Brady says he is retiring “for good” from football, ending a 23-year career in the NFL, during which the star quarterback won seven Super Bowls and set numerous records.

Brady announced his decision on Wednesday (1) on social media, saying he would “not change anything” about his career.

He had previously announced his retirement on February 1, 2022, but 40 days later changed his mind and returned to play last season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Florida.

Brady, who won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and one with the Buccaneers, ends his career as the NFL leader in passing yards (89,214) and touchdown passes (649). The three-time league MVP passed for 4,694 yards – the third highest in the NFL – and 25 touchdowns last season.

He is expected to take a position as a TV broadcaster after signing a contract in 2022 with Fox Sports worth $375 million over 10 years.

Brady also runs several businesses. He founded the health and wellness company TB12 Sports with his longtime trainer, Alex Guerrero. He also has Religion of Sports, which is a media company, and the clothing line Brady Brand.

Career versus Family

Gisele Bundchen, from whom Brady recently divorced, is among the many celebrities who wished Tom Brady well after he announced his retirement on social media:

“Wishing you only wonderful things in this new chapter of your life,” commented the 42-year-old model.

Brady and supermodel Gisele Bündchen, his wife for over 13 years, announced in October that they had divorced. They have two children together – Benjamin, 13, and Vivian, 10. Brady also has a son, Jack, 15, from a previous relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan.

Rumors of discord between Brady and Bündchen began circulating at the end of the 2021 season. He had previously said in interviews that his focus on his career caused problems in the marriage, and in September 2022, Bündchen told Elle magazine that she was concerned about his health if he continued playing. “Obviously, I have my concerns – this is a very violent sport, I have my kids, and I wish he were more present,” she said at the time.
