Círio de Nazaré Draws Record 2.6 Million and Generates R$ 1.2 Billion

Ended on Monday, October 27, with the traditional Recírio, the Círio de Nazaré 2025 boosted the local economy by R$ 1.2 billion and gathered more than 2.6 million people in the main procession, setting a new historical record in Belém (PA). For the first time, the event had direct sponsorship from the Government of Brazil, through the Ministry of Tourism, which allocated federal funds to the structure and organization of the festival.

“The Círio is a celebration that moves Brazil and the world. It expresses the strength of our people’s faith, the beauty of Paraense culture, and the hospitality of the Amazon. Federal Government support reinforces the role of tourism as a tool for integration, job generation, and promotion of cultural diversity,” said Tourism Minister Celso Sabino.

With the theme “Mary, Mother and Queen of all creation,” the 233rd edition of the festival reaffirmed the devotion of the Paraense people and highlighted religious tourism as a driver of cultural and economic development in the country. Federal support also reinforces recognition of the Círio as Brazil’s cultural and religious heritage, in line with the National Tourism Plan 2024–27.

The presence of visitors from all regions of the country boosted sectors such as hospitality, transportation, commerce, and crafts. “Many people talk about the faith of the Círio, but few realize how it boosts the economy. At this time of year, the city fills up and commerce heats up,” reported Natasha Gouveia, a craftswoman who works with typical toys and hats.

For professor Ana Rosa Gomes, from Maceió (AL), who participated for the first time, the Círio was “a transformative experience.” The event also reinforced its environmental commitment through EcoCírio, a program that promotes selective collection, proper waste disposal, and income generation for local cooperatives.

With the conclusion of the Recírio, Belém is already preparing for another major event: COP30, which will bring together world leaders from November 10 to 21, consolidating the Paraense capital as a global center for faith, culture, and sustainability.
