“Cinderella Samba” Returns to NYC Parks – The Brasilians

“Cinderella Samba” Returns to NYC Parks

This spring and summer, the City Parks Puppet Mobile will present free performances of “Cinderella Samba” in parks throughout the five boroughs of New York City.

“Cinderella Samba” is a contemporary version of the classic fairy tale “Cinderella.” The production takes place in the lush landscape of Brazil, where, thanks to the help of her fairy godmother, Cinderella attends the biggest Carnival gala in Rio de Janeiro and dances samba with Prince Paulo himself. After Cinderella is forced to flee the gala just before midnight, the prince sets out in search of the mysterious woman who stole his heart, hoping to marry her.

The production features an original commissioned musical score that brings samba to the forefront; handcrafted Carnival festival floats in parade; and unique puppets dressed in their most vibrant Carnival costumes, created by the puppet experts at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park.

The show coincides with the conclusion of the centennial celebrations happening this year to commemorate the origins of samba in Brazil in late 1916.

The show runs from May 1 to early fall 2017. For more information on dates, times, and locations of all performances, click the link: www.cityparksfoundation.org/events/category/puppetmobile/
