The recognition of Brazil as a foot-and-mouth disease-free country with vaccination will expand the markets that accept Brazilian meat, said Agriculture Minister Blairo Maggi (photo) on April 5.
The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) will officially grant the status in May. “The great recognition we received paves the way for new markets where we still do not have a presence,” said the minister. The Brazilian postal service, Correios, launched a commemorative stamp today to mark the occasion.
The recognition is mainly the result of a partnership that began more than 50 years ago between Brazil’s veterinary health inspection service and the private sector, which today includes more than 2.7 million producers. In addition to highlighting the possibilities for market expansion, Maggi also praised the importance of all vaccination professionals involved in combating the disease.
