Brazil Begins Issuing e-Visas

Since November, Australian tourists wishing to visit Brazil temporarily can apply for their visa electronically.

The visa is issued within 72 hours after the application is made by the tourist. The benefit is also valid for business trips.

In January 2018, the electronic system will also apply to tourists from Canada, the USA, and Japan. Previously, tourists from these countries had to travel to Visa Centers and Brazilian consulates in their countries to apply for entry visas to Brazil.

“The facilitation of visas aims to reduce bureaucracy and, above all, boost the entry of foreign tourists into Brazil,” said the Minister of Tourism, Marx Beltrão. The expectation of the Ministry of Tourism, based on data from the World Tourism Organization, is that the measure will increase the flow of foreign tourists to Brazil by up to 25%.
