With the aim of fulfilling the commitment made to the UN General Assembly in 2016, the Brazilian federal government will select civil society organizations interested in establishing partnerships for the resettlement of Latin American refugees in Brazil.
A measure will allow the resettlement in Brazil of several immigrants from Central America who, despite being recognized as refugees, are still vulnerable and therefore need international protection.
This action helps to fulfill the provisions of the Brazilian Refugee Law and multiple international agreements of which Brazil is a signatory, such as the Mexico Action Plan. By doing so, the country reinforces its commitment to implementing durable solutions for refugees in the region.
According to the announcement, the public-private partnership will last 12 months and must ensure the provision of reception services, housing, and legal, social, and psychological assistance to the arriving refugees. A total of 28 people will be resettled.
