Brazilian gymnasts Rebeca Andrade, Flavia Saraiva, Jade Barbosa, Lorrane Oliveira, and Julia Soares made history on the afternoon of this Tuesday (30), as they won the bronze medal in the team competition of artistic gymnastics at the Paris Olympic Games. This is the first time Brazil has secured a spot on the podium in the team event of this discipline at the mega sporting event.
To achieve this feat, the Brazilian team totaled 164.497 points, behind only the United States, which shone with Simone Biles to take gold with 171.296 points, and Italy, which took silver with 165.494 points.
With the bronze achieved this Tuesday, Brazilian gymnastics now has a total of seven medals in Olympic Games editions. The first achievement came at the London Games (2012), a gold by Arthur Zanetti on the rings. Four years later, in Rio de Janeiro, Zanetti was a medalist again on the rings, but this time with silver. Diego Hypolito and Artur Nory also won, respectively, a silver and a bronze on the floor. Finally, at the Tokyo Games (2020), Rebeca Andrade won the first medals for Brazilian women’s gymnastics: a gold on vault and a silver in the all-around.United States Takes Gold
Simone Biles and her teammates won gold in the team final for the United States at the Paris Olympics, after finishing second at the Tokyo 2021 Games.
Before the start of the Games, Biles and her teammates said they were seeking “redemption” for that “disappointment.” “I feel like we all have more to give. Our performances in Tokyo were not the best,” Biles said after the U.S. Olympic team trials last month. “We also weren’t in the best circumstances, but I feel like we have a lot of weight on our shoulders to go out there and prove that we are better athletes.”
