Bolsonaro Indicted for Fraud in Covid Vaccination Card

The Federal Police (PF) indicted former president Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday (19) for fraud in a covid-19 vaccination card. In January, the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU) concluded that the record of immunization against the disease on Bolsonaro’s vaccination card is false. The investigation originated from a request under the Access to Information Law (LAI) made at the end of 2022.

The current data from the Ministry of Health, which appears on the vaccination card, indicates that the former president was vaccinated on July 19, 2021, at the Basic Health Unit (UBS) Parque Peruche, in the northern zone of São Paulo. However, the CGU found that Bolsonaro was not in the capital on that date and that the batch of vaccines listed in the ministry’s system was not available on that date at the UBS where the immunization was supposed to have occurred.

On his profile on the social network X, formerly Twitter, Bolsonaro’s lawyer Fabio Wajngarten criticized the disclosure of the indictment. “Leaks continue in abundance, or rather in liters. It is regrettable when the authority uses the press to communicate a formal act that should logically have a technical and procedural basis instead of a media and biased one,” he wrote.

Former Aide Indicted

Colonel Mauro Cid, former aide to Bolsonaro, was also indicted by the PF. He is identified as the orchestrator of the issuance of false vaccination cards against covid-19 for the former president and his family. In a new testimony to the PF last week, Mauro Cid answered questions about the investigation.

This was the seventh time Mauro Cid has been to the Federal Police. In three of those instances, he remained silent. After signing a plea bargain agreement, the colonel began to answer all questions posed in the last four interrogations.
